Rain Garden Workshops
Rain Gardens are designed to trap rain water and allow it to soak into the ground, rather than run into the storm sewer and then into our lakes and rivers. These gardens have a variety of benefits including:
- Preventing Water from Getting into Basements
- Beautification with Native Flowers & Plants
- Filtering of runoff from use areas of the property
- Increased Wildlife Habitat
A workshop will be held on Friday May 4th, 2012 from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm. It will be held at the Garrison City Hall - located at 27069 Central Street in Garrison ( 3 blocks west of the big fish). Jackie Froemming from the University of Minnesota Extension Service will introduce Rainwater Gardens and how they work and also their planning and installation. We will also discuss native plants, plant and weed ID, and maintenance of a Rain Garden. Cost Share assistance available through the Watershed Group will also be highlighted. The cost of the workshop is $ 3 per attendee. Please call the Aitkin County SWCD at (218) 927-6565 to register.
Funding for this workshop was received as part of a MPCA Clean Water Partnership Grant that the Mille Lacs Lake Watershed Management group received.. Are you interested in adding a Rain garden to your property? Call one of the SWCD Offices listed below for more information.
